Rules and Regulations

Rules
  • The competition is only open to all pupils who are in Primary 6 (or its equivalent) in 2025. Pupils must be based in Singapore.
  • Only participants who have pre-registered will be allowed into SOTA. Please bring along a copy of the registration form on the day of competition on Saturday, 15 February 2025, as well as your student ID for verification.
  • Family members are advised to pick up their child/ward once the competition is over at SOTA Level 2 pick-up point between 1.15pm-1.30pm. 
  • The entry must be the sole original work of the participant and there must be no assistance rendered by anyone else. 
  • Participants may not use any non-electronic, mobile, electronic devices or Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist them during the competition. 
  • Participants may only use the mobile device to contact their parents or family members in case of any emergencies or once the competition is over.  
  • Participants must execute the artwork on an official A4-sized paper (29.7cm x 21.0cm) provided by SOTA during the competition. Any other paper brought by participants to the venue will not be accepted. 
  • Participants are free to bring and use any dry drawing medium, such as pencil, coloured pen, ink, markers, crayon, oil pastels or chalk. Dry mediums may also be combined and used in the artwork.  
  • No wet mediums (watercolour, acrylic, oil paints or gouache), as well as printmaking, relief or collage artwork will be allowed.
  • Participants have to create an original composition on-the-spot based on the given theme. They will be evaluated based on observational drawing skills and aspects of imaginative elements in their artwork.
  • Participants must include a short personal reflection behind their artwork (of not more than 150 words) on how their artwork responds to the competition theme. 
  • All artworks must be submitted between 10.00am-1.00pm on Saturday, 15 February 2025. 
  • Late submissions after 1.00pm will not be accepted.
Registration
  • Participants are to register participation on their own. There is no requirement to register through the participants’ primary school or art teacher. 
  • Registration will close once 500 participants have registered. The competition will not accept registration or any form of appeal beyond that. 
  • The following information is required for online registration:
    • Participant’s personal details
      (Email address, Name, Age, Nationality, Contact Number, first 4 digits of Student ID number) 
    • School information
      (Name of School)
    • Name of parent / guardian 
    • Contact number (In case of any emergencies)
Judging
  • The judging panel will comprise representatives from SOTA, who will judge based on the following criteria:
    • Imagination
    • Technical Skills
  • The judges' decision is final.
  • Top 30 Finalists will be announced on the SOTA website on Friday, 14 March 2025. SOTA regrets that there will not be replies to enquiries on the release of results via email or telephone.
Showcase
  • All Top 30 Finalists' works will be exhibited at SOTA Level 2 Foyer from Saturday 5 April - Thursday 10 April 2025.
  • While all possible care will be taken during the verification of the Top 30 Finalists' artwork, SOTA will assume no responsibility for any loss or damage of the artworks before, during and after the competition. 
Return of Artworks
  • All artworks (except the winning Top 30 Finalists) may be collected from SOTA during SOTA Open House on Saturday, 5 April between 9.00am - 1.00pm.   
  • All Top 30 Finalists' artworks may be collected at the SOTA Level 2 Security Counter from Friday 11 April to Saturday 12 April between 1.00pm - 5.00pm. 
  • Any artworks not collected shall become the property of SOTA and may be retained, utilised, or otherwise disposed of in whatever way the organiser deems fit.
  • While all possible care will be taken during the verification of the Top 30 Finalists' artwork, SOTA will assume no responsibility for any loss or damage of the artworks before, during and after verification. 
Copyright
  • The copyright in all participants’ artworks and competition-related images shall be dealt with in accordance with the SOTA Copyright Policy. The ownership of the submitted works and competition-related images remains with SOTA and approval must be sought from SOTA for any use.
  • By submitting an entry to SOTA, the participant agrees to the terms stated above and allows SOTA to share his/her personal data within the school, to collect and use the data, and to disclose the data to the school’s authorised service providers and competition sponsor, for the following purposes:
  • To contact the award winners and/or participants to discuss any future exhibitions, public events related to their artworks and other art events.
  • To be added to the SOTA Art Competition mailing list to update the competition alumni members on activities related to SOTA.

SOTA reserves the rights to disqualify entries that do not adhere to the rules and regulations, and to the works created in the actual event including the liberty to handle the works as it deems fit.
